It’s Not That We Have More Practice Getting Older, We Just don’t Give A fuck About Pointless Drama

I took Jason to of our better restaurants. He looked at the menu for about 3 seconds and put it down. The waiter came over to take our order., “I’ll have the Catch of the Day”, he said. “I’ll have the same.” Since the only thing we could order was fish this made it very easy. We broke open the bottle of wine and clicked our glasses. It was a decent bottle but rather warm for white wine. I had the waiter bring over a bucket of ice, but in 130-degree weather, it melted rather quickly.

Jason started the conversation. He commented on the island (it was not exactly what he expected. He referred to it as the rebuilding of the former eastern part of Berlin after the wall came down. Then he went into who he was dating, why he was dating, how expensive the world has gotten, etc. At this point all I wanted to do was talk about business. In the middle of the conversation, I very curtly cut him off. “Sorry to shut you up my friend, but stop skirting around the point of why you are here. What is going on with the business?”

“Ivan, I‘ve never seen you like this before. You are or were so mild mannered and charming.”

“Yeah, that’s out the window Jason. Now tell me what is going on. Even a monkey can see you’re hiding something so out with it.” My anger was escalating. Perhaps Aaron was right. The transfusions are making me less tolerant and perhaps a bit violent.

“Jason let me put it to you this way, you know that awkward moment when you make eye contact with someone through a little crack in a bathroom stall? Well this is one of those times. Spill it and stop beating around the bush.”

I could see he was starting to shake and for good reason. What he was about to say, was not what I wanted to hear.

Stay tuned…
